Collections for Organized Research
Build and manage Perplexity Collections to organize ongoing research projects and share findings with your team.
What Are Collections?
Collections are Perplexity's organizational layer for research projects. A collection groups related threads, notes, and saved answers under a single topic. Think of them as project folders for your research.
Creating a Collection
- Click "Collections" in the sidebar
- "New Collection" and give it a meaningful name
- Add a description to remind yourself of the scope
- Choose public or private
Naming convention for business research:
- Q2 2025 Competitor Analysis
- Market Research — Enterprise AI Tools
- Due Diligence — Acme Corp
Adding Threads to Collections
Every Perplexity thread can be saved to a collection. After running a search, click the bookmark icon and select the target collection.
The power is in follow-up threads — each question builds on the last, and the collection keeps them grouped and searchable.
Building a Research Collection
A well-structured collection for market research might include threads on:
- Market size and growth rate
- Key players and their positioning
- Customer pain points (from reviews and forums)
- Regulatory environment
- Technology trends affecting the space
Rather than one massive query, break research into focused threads. Each is more accurate and easier to revisit.
Sharing Collections
Collections can be shared with a link. This is ideal for:
- Sharing research context with AI agents
- Distributing findings to stakeholders
- Collaborating on ongoing research with a team member
Collections as a Research System
Treat collections as living documents. As new information emerges, add threads. A collection on a key competitor becomes more valuable over time as you accumulate context.
Combine with a weekly research habit: spend 30 minutes updating your key collections with the latest news, product updates, and market signals.
